Waikato Engineering Education Fund

Donations to the Waikato Engineering Education Fund facilitate scholarships for trainees, apprentices, and professionals in the Waikato engineering sector.

The Waikato Engineering Education Fund, established by the Waikato Engineering Careers Association (WECA), aims to address skills shortages in the engineering industry by supporting innovation and addressing diversity and equity in the workforce.

The Fund is primarily for scholarships for trainees, apprentices and professionals in the engineering industry in the Waikato, surrounding areas and beyond. Scholarships can be used for part or full-time training or education, locally or further afield, for fees and/or living and associated costs.

The secondary purpose is to support activities that inform and facilitate the pursuit and development of Waikato engineering careers.

WECA is a non-profit incorporated society founded in 2003 when a group of engineering companies signed up their support to collectively address skills shortage in the sector.

Members, both large and small, include mechanical, plastics, electrical, design and civil engineering businesses, and associate members.

WECA’s vision is to foster a vibrant and sustainable engineering sector by attracting and developing engineers of the future.

As New Zealand’s only engineering careers association, WECA members make key connections with other companies and educators, have input into education, training and career pathways, a voice at central and local government, and play an important role in external communications and activities promoting engineering in Waikato as a career.

Over the last two decades the WECA team has attended more than 60 Careers Expos, spoken to thousands of young people, built websites, facilitated work placements, and lobbied on behalf of the engineering sector.
